Over a million registrations received under Scheme $6,000

     The Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau said that since the commencement of Scheme $6,000 on August 28, the overall operation has been smooth.

     Up to September 18, over 1.1 million registration forms have been received. People who have registered through banks and are confirmed to be eligible will receive payment starting from end October at the earliest. Those who have registered through Hongkong Post and are confirmed to be eligible will be notified by post to collect their cheque at the post office selected in around 12 weeks after registration, i.e. mid November.

     Of the registrations processed, there are about 4,800 duplicate submissions, about 1,700 registrants are found not yet meeting the eligibility criteria, and about 1,000 registrants not meeting the eligibility criteria.

     A spokesman for the Bureau said that people who submitted duplicate registrations, are yet to meet or do not meet the eligibility criteria will receive notification soon.  Duplicate submissions will not be processed. For those who have yet to meet the eligibility criteria, their registrations will be processed after March 31, 2012, the eligibility date of the Scheme. People who do not meet the eligibility criteria if have reasons for disagreement may make representations in writing within 14 days from the receipt of the notification and apply for a review.

     Some banks will acknowledge receipt of registration by SMS. Registrants who wish to make an enquiry about their registration may call their bank specified for receiving payment 14 business days after submission. The enquiry telephone numbers of the 21 retail banks are as follows:

     People who have registered through Hongkong Post and wish to make an enquiry about their registration may, also 14 business days after submission, contact Hongkong Post at 2365 2727.

     Members of the public are reminded to sign the registration form to ensure successful registration. Those who register through banks have to provide a local Hong Kong dollar bank account in their sole name (joint bank account cannot be used for receiving payment under the Scheme), and submit the form to the bank specified for receiving payment. They should also safeguard their personal data and guard against scams for obtaining personal data or money by deceit in the guise of Scheme $6,000.
