Hong Kong Logistics Development Council delegation visits US

     A Hong Kong Logistics Development Council (LOGSCOUNCIL) delegation departed today (September 5) for New York to begin tomorrow a four-day US visit to promote Hong Kong's logistics industry and learn about the latest development plans for US ports, airports and logistics facilities.

     The 10-member delegation will foster ties with the relevant authorities and key market players in the US and seek to impress upon them Hong Kong's unique status as the logistics gateway to and from Mainland China, particularly in the high-end market segment.

     The delegates will visit the FedEx Super Hub in Memphis and the Port of Long Beach, the second busiest container port in the US, as well as the facilities of two major logistics services providers, Pacer Distribution Services in Los Angeles and Expeditors International in San Francisco.
 
     To promote Hong Kong as a regional logistics hub, the delegation will hold seminars with industry leaders in New York and Los Angeles and host business luncheons in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.  

     Members of the LOGSCOUNCIL delegation include Legislative Councillor Ms Miriam Lau; Chairman and CEO of Orient Overseas (International) Limited, Mr C C Tung; Chairman of the Hong Kong Shippers' Council, Mr Willy Lin; Chief Executive of GS1 Hong Kong, Ms Anna Lin; Senior Programme Director of the School of Professional and Continuing Education at the University of Hong Kong, Mr Leung Kong-yui; and Deputy Secretary for Transport and Housing (Transport), Ms Doris Cheung.
