Public talk on rural and urban forests in Hong Kong

     To raise the public's awareness of the importance of forests, woodlands and trees in our living environment, and to mark the United Nations' International Year of Forests, the Greening, Landscape and Tree Management (GLTM) Section of the Development Bureau will organise a public talk on September 17 and a roving exhibition from September 17 to December 9.

     The public talk, entitled "Rural and Urban Forests in Hong Kong" will be held from 2.30pm to 5.45pm on September 17 at the Lecture Hall, Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre, Kowloon Park. The following topics will be presented:

* "Fung Shui Woodland in Hong Kong", by Professor Zhuang Xue-ying of the South China Agricultural University;
* "Planting Trees in Country Parks - Past, Present and Future", by Dr Samuel Lam of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department; and
* "Urban Forestry: From Environmental-Landscape to Social-Economic Functions", by Professor Jim Chi-yung of the University of Hong Kong.

     To further spread the message of sustainable management, conservation and development of forests and trees, a roving exhibition will be held from September 17 to December 9 at Kowloon Park, Hong Kong Park, North District Park and Sha Tin Park.

     Admission will be free for both the public talk and the roving exhibition. Reservations for the public talk will start from September 1 on a first-come, first-served basis.
