SED leads students and teachers on Hubei visit (with photos)

     The Secretary for Education, Mr Michael Suen, today (August 24) took a high speed train to Wuhan, Hubei with about 300 students and teachers to embark on a Hubei exchange tour in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the 1911 Revolution.

     Mr Suen is leading the Hubei exchange tour which has been organised under the "Passing On the Torch: Exploring and Embracing Chinese Culture National Education Exchange Programme".

     The Hubei tour comprises three study trips, namely "Exploration of the 1911 Revolution" , "Water conservation, industrial planning and culture exploration" and "Traces of the 1911 Revolution and exploration of the high-speed railway".  More than 1,100 students and teachers from 86 secondary schools are participating in the three trips, which take place from August 22 to 27.

     The delegation will tomorrow (August 25) attend a ceremony to mark the 100th anniversary of the 1911 Revolution, which will be officiated by Mr Suen and Hubei provincial leaders.

     During his three-day stay in Wuhan, Mr Suen will also visit Wuhan University and join some learning activities with the students.

     The "Passing on the Torch: Exploring and Embracing Chinese Culture National Education Exchange Programme", which has been organised by the Education Bureau since 2010, is an initiative to deepen students' understanding of the country and strengthen their national identity and sense of belonging.

     To date, more than 8,300 students have joined exchange tours to the Mainland under the Programme. Provinces and municipalities visited so far included Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Nanjing, Xian, Zhengzhou, Guangxi, Sichuan and Hubei Province.
