Vice-Premier Li Keqiang attends new Government Headquarters completion ceremony (with photos/videos)

     The Vice-Premier of the State Council, Mr Li Keqiang, today (August 18) attended the ceremony marking the completion of the new Government Headquarters at Tamar.

     Accompanied by the Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, Mr Li unveiled a plaque to mark the completion of the new Government Headquarters.

     After the ceremony, Mr Li proceeded to Hong Kong International Airport. Before boarding his flight, he talked to the media to conclude his visit.

     Mr Li said that during his tight visit programme, he had visited some organisations and families and had chatted with people from various sectors, which had deepened his understanding of Hong Kong. Talking about his feelings, he had three points to make.

     "First, Hong Kong's role and importance in the nation's reform, opening-up and modernisation drive is irreplaceable, and there is great potential in a wide range of Mainland-Hong Kong co-operation areas," Mr Li said.

     "Second, Hong Kong people are hard-working and wise, and they illustrate seriousness, concentration and professionalism in their work. Hong Kong society is open and diversified, full of dynamism.

     "Third, Hong Kong under 'One Country, Two Systems' has the great vitality to cope with challenges and maintain prosperity and stability under whatever circumstances," he said.

     Mr Li said his sense of the potential, dynamism and vitality in Hong Kong enables him to have full confidence in the future of Hong Kong.

     He then boarded a special flight and concluded his three-day visit in Hong Kong.

     Seeing off Mr Li at the apron were the Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang; the Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr Peng Qinghua; the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang; the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang; the Secretary for Justice, Mr Wong Yan Lung, SC; the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr Lu Xinhua; the Commander of the People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison, Lieutenant General Zhang Shibo; and Political Commissar Lieutenant General Wang Zengbo.
