Police's response to newspaper reports

     In response to newspaper reports today (August 13) on a case happened at Tim Wa Avenue in Admiralty on August 11, a Police spokesman made the following statement:

     ¡§Police respect press freedom and right of reporting. Police would not obstruct normal news reporting but would act in accordance with the law in case anyone is suspected to have breached the law.

     Police reiterated that the whole incident was handled in an impartial manner. Police made the arrest based on the situation at scene and as the persons involved gave different explanations at different junctures, saying that they were public officers, visitors or they had lost their way. As they were not able to provide a credible explanation, Police made the arrest based on reasonable suspicion. After further investigations, it was believed that the persons did not have any criminal intent to burgle and they were released unconditionally.¡¨
