Company fined for illegal club operation
****************************************

A company was fined $5,000 in the Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts today (July 21) for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

The court heard that the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of the Home Affairs Department conducted an inspection in May this year on a club in Hilltop Road, Tsuen Wan, which had been operating with a certificate of compliance (CoC). During the investigation, OLA officers found that the patrons received by the club were not accompanied by any club member and the patrons were not members of the club.

Thus, the club breached condition 19 of the CoC, i.e. the clubhouse should at all times be used by the club, its members and their accompanied guests. The company, being the CoC holder, was subsequently charged with contravening section 21(2) of the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

A spokesman for the department said enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal clubhouse operations.
