The China Philharmonic Orchestra (Hong Kong) will collaborate with promising violinist Patricio Lau for a concert in August.
Under the baton of music director Lim Kek-han, the orchestra will play Mozart's "Overture: The Marriage of Figaro" and Tchaikovsky's "Symphony No. 6, 'Pathetique'"; while Lau will perform Mozart's "Violin Concerto No.5 in A Major".
Locally born Patricio Lau learned to play violin under Lim Kek-han's supervision and was later awarded the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Performer's Diploma of Royal Schools of Music. He continued to study violin under Lim during his education at the University of Hong Kong. An active member of the China Philharmonic Orchestra (Hong Kong), Lau has frequently been performed with the orchestra in Hong Kong.
The China Philharmonic Orchestra (Hong Kong) originated from the Lim Kek Han Philharmonic Orchestra, which was founded in 1977 with Lim as music director and principal conductor. The orchestra holds many concerts each year, bringing a variety of music to its audiences. Soloists and guest conductors are also invited from the Mainland and overseas to perform with the orchestra.
The orchestra works hard to introduce Chinese music rearranged in modern style to local audience and has held numerous Chinese music concerts. In 1982, the "Yellow River Cantata" concert took place at the Hong Kong City Hall and was ardently supported by the public. In the Festival of Asian Arts 1982, an outdoor concert given by the orchestra with a choir of 300 members was recorded by the Beijing Central People's Broadcasting and Television Unit and broadcast nation-wide in mainland China.
This concert by the China Philharmonic Orchestra (Hong Kong) is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and will take place at 8pm, August 7 (Sunday), at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall. Tickets priced at $80, $110 and $140 are now available at URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis). A maximum discount of 20% is offered for group bookings.
