The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) has designed and launched two mobile applications, namely "Enjoy Hiking" and "Hong Kong National Geopark", since last December to provide more useful information for country park visitors. Both applications are popular among the public, and the "Hong Kong National Geopark" mobile application was recently awarded as one of the Top 10 My Favorite Hong Kong Apps.
The "Hong Kong National Geopark" mobile application, which was launched in April, showcases the unique geological features and landforms of the Hong Kong National Geopark by means of audio, video, pictures and text. It also introduces the locations of geotour routes and geoheritage centres. Taking advantage of the real-time Google map function, users can enjoy breathtaking views of the geological features and landforms of the Geopark at any time and place.
The "Enjoy Hiking" mobile application, which was tailor-made for country park hikers, showcases various hiking trails and routes in Hong Kong as well as some hiking safety tips. Users can select suitable routes with reference to their interests, physical fitness and experience to enjoy hiking in the countryside of Hong Kong.
The two applications are available for three different mobile operating systems, including iOS, Android and Windows Mobile 7, with several language versions. Users can download the applications free of charge.
The AFCD will regularly collect users' comments on the applications to optimise their interfaces and contents as well as design more appropriate applications to assist country park visitors.
