CE to visit Australia

     The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, will visit Australia from June 15 to 23.  

     The visit aims at strengthening the ties between Hong Kong and Australia, promoting trade opportunities, and encouraging more Australian companies, particularly resources companies, to list in Hong Kong.

     During his visit, Mr Tsang will meet Australian Government officials and business leaders, and visit some infrastructure, community and tourism projects in Melbourne, Perth, Canberra, and Sydney, to foster bilateral co-operation.

     The Chief Executive and relevant officials will take the opportunity to learn more about Australia's experience in administering health protection scheme and developing medical services.

     While in Melbourne, the Chief Executive will speak at a luncheon hosted by the Asialink, meet with Hong Kong students at Melbourne University, and visit a children's hospital.  In Perth, he will address the Western Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry luncheon. During his stay in Canberra, Mr Tsang will meet the Australian Prime Minister, Ms Julie Gillard, other senior officials in federal government, members of Parliament, and officials responsible for the private health insurance administration.  In Sydney, he will officiate at a reception for the unveiling of a heritage plaque for Hong Kong House.

     Mr Tsang will depart for Melbourne on June 15 evening and return to Hong Kong on June 23 evening.  

     The Under Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Gabriel Leung; Private Secretary to Chief Executive, Ms Bernadette Linn; and Information Coordinator, Mr Andy Ho; will also join the visit.

     During Mr Tsang's absence, the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang, will be acting Chief Executive on June 15 evening and from June 16 afternoon to June 23, while the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, will be acting Chief Executive on June 16 morning.
