Director of the HKETO, Berlin addresses Hong Kong-Shenzhen joint promotion in Munich
***********************************************************

Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Berlin (HKETO, Berlin), Mr Stephen Wong, addressed dinner guests following the Hong Kong-Shenzhen joint promotion seminar in Munich on June 9 (Munich).

"Taken individually, Hong Kong and Shenzhen are excellent places to do business. Taken together they represent an unbeatable combination. Hong Kong is part of China. At the same time, Hong Kong enjoys a high degree of autonomy as a distinctly different part of China. Our traditional role of acting as a bridge between East and West, far from fading after 1997 as some suggested it might, is if anything stronger than ever," he said.

He noted that Hong Kong and Shenzhen are located in the Greater Peal River Delta (PRD), which includes Hong Kong, Macau and the PRD Economic Development Zone portion of Guangdong Province (Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Jiangmen, Dongguan, Zhongshan, parts of Huizhou and Zhaoqing) and has a total population of some 55 million. With its total gross domestic product and exports exceeding USD 665 billion and USD 751 billion respectively, the Greater PRD is China's most affluent region and has a rapidly expanding purchasing power.

The seminar, co-hosted by Invest Hong Kong and the Science, Industry, Trade and Information Technology Commission (SITIC) of Shenzhen Municipality, was designed to highlight the latest business opportunities and current economic environment in Hong Kong and Shenzhen. Companies have benefited from establishing their regional headquarters in Hong Kong and making use of this strategic location at the centre of Asia to oversee their manufacturing facilities and sales operations in the Greater PRD and the wider Asia region. Case studies and practical tips were presented. The seminar served as an excellent opportunity to network with high-level government officials and business executives.
