LCSD to organise Mahler music lecture series
********************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will soon organise a lecture series on Gustav Mahler's music, marking the centenary of the great composer's death.

To many people, perhaps especially to those new to classical music, Mahler's symphonies, performed at great length by very large orchestras, may not be easily accessible. Speakers Albert Ho and Li Chi-man will introduce Mahler's 10 symphonies as well as "Das Lied von der Erde" in lectures on six consecutive Wednesdays, helping the audience to discover both the general background and the technicality of the works.

Conducted in Cantonese, the lectures will be held at 7.30pm on June 29, July 6, July 13, July 20, July 27 and August 3 at the Lecture Hall, Hong Kong Space Museum. Tickets priced at $50 for each lecture (free seating) are now available at URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients may receive a 50% discount (limited tickets for students and CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis). A maximum discount of 20% is offered for group bookings.

For enquiries on the lectures, please call 2268 7321 or visit www.lcsd.gov.hk/cp. Ticketing enquiries can be made on 2734 9009 and credit card telephone bookings on 2111 5999. Tickets can also be booked online at www.urbtix.hk.
