National studies programme for Hong Kong women leaders concluded (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Women's Commission:

     Organised by the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Women's Commission (WoC), a national studies programme targeting Hong Kong women leaders was conducted from May 23-27 at the Academy of Chinese Culture in Beijing.

     The objective of the programme was to nurture women leaders by enriching their leadership skills and familiarising them with various topics, including the development of women in Chinese societies.

     The Vice-minister of the Coordination Department of the Liaison Office, Ms Liao Xun, was the honorary advisor. The 29-strong delegation, headed by the Chairperson of the WoC, Ms Sophia Kao, included members from different sectors, such as women District Council members, representatives of women's organisations and young female leaders.

     During the five days of the programme, participants attended a series of extensive national studies courses and exchange activities. Through theoretical and interactive sessions, participants were able to a gain better understanding of the latest developments in the Mainland, including the National 12th Five-Year Plan, the macroeconomic environment, social policies and women's affairs. They were also able to acquire a thorough knowledge of topics such as Chinese culture and national cohesion, systems thinking and creativity, communication and interaction skills as well as the enhancement of women's leadership.

     The delegation also paid courtesy visits to the All-China Women's Federation, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council and other related ministries, which enhanced the delegation's understanding of national policies and women's development.
