Six employers ordered to pay MPF contributions

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (May 4) successfully pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $94,000 for 21 employees who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearings today, two of the defendants, New Sunshine Technology Limited and Leung Chun Wa trading as United Company, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Tribunal ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $37,200 and $24,846.26 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     Another four defendants, Ex-pest Limited, Lam Wai Kwok trading as Lucky Win Co., Cargocare Hong Kong Limited and Love & Care Medical Practice Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Tribunal ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $20,448.75, $6,247.5, $3,988 and $1,324.36 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further ordered the six defendants to pay $176, $188, $125, $119, $81 and $95 respectively as the costs of the claims.
