SHA opens Hong Kong Garden at Xi'an International Horticultural Exposition (with photos)

     The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, today (April 28) officiated at the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong Garden at the International Horticultural Exposition 2011 (the Expo) in Xi'an.

     The Expo is held from today until October 22. The Hong Kong Garden, 716 square metres in area, has "Hong Kong Style and Flavour" as the main theme. Together with various kinds of plants, the tree-like architectural design "Tree-ZE", which comprises 360 mini-windmills, represents the beautiful scenery of Hong Kong in an environmentally friendly way.

     Mr Tsang officiated at the unveiling ceremony of the Hong Kong Garden after attending the Expo's opening ceremony. Also attending the ceremony were the Vice Mayor of the City of Xi'an, Mr Qian Yinan; Director of Architectural Services, Ms Marigold Lau; Deputy Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mr Bobby Cheng; and Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Chengdu, Mr Eddie Poon.    

¡@¡@ Mr Tsang and other guests also toured the Hong Kong Garden. They were briefed on the garden's design and characteristics by representatives of the Architectural Services Department and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
 
     In the afternoon, Mr Tsang called on the Director of the Shaanxi Provincial Ethnic Affairs Commission and Religious Affairs Bureau, Mr Xu Zili, to exchange views on religious development and ways to enhance co-operation in religious affairs between the two places.  

     Mr Tsang said after the meeting that the development of religious affairs in Shaanxi was flourishing. Noting that there have always been exchanges and visits between religious organisations in Shaanxi and Hong Kong, he said he hoped that ties between the two places would be strengthened to promote religious development.

     Mr Tsang will visit museums in Xi'an tomorrow to learn more about the latest developments of cultural and museum facilities in Shaanxi.
