Duo jailed for trafficking in dangerous drugs

     A 52-year-old man was jailed for fourteen years with the enhancement of sentence under Section 56A of the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance for trafficking in dangerous drugs and involving a minor in the case at the Court of First Instance today (April 26). A 17-year-old male teenager was also jailed for eight years and ten months for trafficking in dangerous drugs and obstructing a police officer in the execution of his duty.

     The court heard that officers of Narcotics Bureau conducted an operation on April 1 last year and found that the 52-year-old man delivered a paper bag to the 17-year-old teenager at a bus terminal near Shek Yam Estate in Kwai Chung. The man then fled away by taxi and the teenager was intercepted at Yam Hing House where 839 grams of Ketamine was seized from the paper bag. Two police officers were injured when subduing the teenager.

     The 52-year-old man was later arrested at Ho Sheung Heung in Lok Ma Chau when he alighted a taxi. About 818 grams of Ketamine was also seized in his possession.

     The duo was subsequently charged with trafficking in dangerous drugs and the teenager was also charged with obstructing a police officer in the execution of his duty. Sentences were handed down today.
