Six employers ordered to pay MPF contributions

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (April 8) successfully pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $75,000 for 18 employees who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearings today, the defendants, Lung Wah Imperial Restaurant Limited, Ascend Consulting (Asia) Limited, Terse Limited, 3828 Limited, Welta Limited and Cheung Fong Leung trading as Lai Kee Roast Meat Shop, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $46,121.25, $17,325, $6,090, $3,471.56, $1,269.13 and $1,080 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Adjudicator further ordered the six defendants to pay $210, $110, $91, $114, $45 and$109 respectively as the costs of the claims.
