Six employers ordered to pay MPF contributions

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (March 21) successfully pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $107,000 for 12 employees who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearings today, the defendants, Chan Wai Man trading as Wai Yip Engineering Co. and Fortune Well Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $42,217.04 and $7,520.63 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     Another four defendants, Wong Kong Yiu Nigel trading as N K Wong & Co., Kwok Miu Wah trading as Pure Lux, Asia Water Resources (Holdings) Limited and Glory Joy Enterprises Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $21,185.75, $13,737.17, $12,600 and $10,573 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
 
     Meanwhile, the Adjudicator ordered one of the defendants, Wong Kong Yiu Nigel trading as N K Wong & Co., to pay the MPFA a financial penalty of $5,000, which was imposed by the MPFA for failing to make MPF contributions for its employees.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Adjudicator further ordered the six defendants to pay $209, $145, $248, $109, $76 and $86 respectively as the costs of the claims.
