Fatal traffic accident in Tuen Mun

     Police are investigating a traffic accident in Tuen Mun this afternoon (March 18) in which a 19-year-old woman died.

     About 9.20am, a taxi driven by a 62-year-old man were travelling along Wong Chu Road towards Hoi Chu Road. When approaching the junction with Hoi Chu Road, the taxi cut into another lane. A container truck travelling along that lane could not brake in time and hit the taxi. The taxi then hit a light goods vehicle (LGV) in the front, causing a chain collision between the LGV and another four vehicles, including a bus, a taxi, a medium goods vehicle and a private car
 
     A 19-year-old female taxi passenger, the 62-year-old taxi driver and the 39-year-old male private car driver were injured and were sent to Tuen Mun Hospital for medical treatment. The taxi passenger sustained serious head injuries and was sent to the hospital in unconscious state. She was later certified dead at 10.07am.

     The taxi driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and was released on bail pending further investigation.

     Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North are underway.
