Public consultation on regulation of the property management industry closes today
************************************************************

The public consultation on putting in place a regulatory framework for the property management industry will close today (March 15).

"Our policy objective is to ensure that owners have more choice of quality, effective and affordable property management services. In putting in place a new regulatory regime, we aim to set an appropriate benchmark for services provided by the industry, raise public awareness of the professionalism of the property management companies (PMCs) and practitioners and promote the concept of maintaining building safety and value through continuous effective building management," a spokesman for the Home Affairs Department (HAD) said.

During the consultation period, the HAD consulted 18 District Councils and met with various stakeholders including property management practitioners and relevant professional groups. The HAD also conducted focus group meetings with owners' corporations. A total of four public regional forums on Hong Kong Island, in Kowloon, New Territories East and New Territories West were organised to gauge public views. The HAD has also received written submissions from the public through various channels such as by email, post and fax.

"We will collate, study and analyse the views received during the consultation period. Our aim is to formulate the key parameters of the proposed regulatory framework by the middle of this year," the spokesman added.
