Appointments to MPFA

     The Chief Executive has re-appointed Ms Anna Wu Hung-yuk as Chairperson of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) for a term of two years starting March 17, 2011.

     The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang said today (March 15) that Ms Wu has an exemplary public service record and profound experience in the Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) System.  Her continued appointment as Chairperson of MPFA will provide continuity to the work of the Authority.  

     "Ms Wu has provided capable leadership to the MPFA since her appointment as chairperson in 2009.  I am confident that she will continue to lead the MPFA in performing its statutory functions and steer the improvement of the MPF System with her vision, insight and dedication to serve," Mr Tsang said.

     The Financial Secretary also announced the appointment of five incumbent non-executive directors and four new non-executive directors, namely Mr Ip Kwok-him, Ms Paddy Lui Wai-yu, Mr John Poon Cho-ming and Mr Philip Tsai Wing-chung, for a two-year term starting from March 17, 2011.  

Mr Ip Kwok-him is an elected member of the Legislative Council and the Central and Western District Council.  

     Ms Paddy Lui Wai-yu is an Executive Director of K Wah International Holding Limited and Galaxy Entertainment Group Limited and the Managing Director of Stanford Hotels International Limited.

     Mr John Poon Cho-ming is a solicitor and is currently engaged in private equity investment.  He is the former Deputy Chairman and Group Chief Financial Officer of Esprit Holdings Ltd.

     Mr Philip Tsai Wing-chung is a Partner of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu and the President of the Council of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

     "With the leadership of Ms Wu and the good mix of experience and expertise of the appointees for the new two-year term, the MPFA will endeavour to further improve the MPF System," Mr Tsang said.

     Ms Angelina Lee Wong Pui-ling, Mr Leo Kung Lin-cheng, Mr David Sun Tak-kei and Mr Wong Ting-kwong will step down after serving the MPFA with dedication for six years.

     "The Administration would like to thank the four outgoing non-executive directors for their invaluable advice and contributions to the work of MPFA during their tenure," Mr Tsang added.

     THe MPFA is a statutory body established in September 1998 under the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance for the regulation and supervision of the MPF System.  The MPF System commenced operation in December 2000, and as at end December 2010, it covered more than 2.4 million scheme members with a total net asset value of more than $365.4 billion.
