USHA visits new arrival family (with photo)
*******************************************

The Under Secretary for Home Affairs, Ms Florence Hui, visited a newly arrival family in Lai Kok Estate, Cheung Sha Wan today (March 4) to learn about their daily lives and the difficulties they face in adapting to the local environment.

Ms Hui chatted with Mrs Poon, her two sons and her mother-in-law. Coming from Henan with her sons, Mrs Poon shared with Ms Hui their experiences in adapting to a new life in Hong Kong over the past two years.

Ms Hui said, "I also moved from the Mainland to Hong Kong when I was little. I fully understand that newcomers have to face challenges in economic, cultural and daily life aspects after coming to Hong Kong. There are always teething problems to be overcome in a new environment wherever we go.

"No matter where they come from, new arrivals are a part of Hong Kong. It is our goal to help them integrate into the community as early as possible."

It was announced in the Budget that the Home Affairs Bureau will join hands with the Home Affairs Department and other departments in leading a dedicated team to introduce tailor-made services for new arrivals.

"The Special Administrative Region Government is very concerned about the living condition of new arrivals and will continue to listen to their views carefully in a bid to provide appropriate assistance," stressed Ms Hui.
