Tenders invited for leases of EcoPark Phase 2 Lots
**************************************************

The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) is inviting recycling operators with relevant experience and expertise to submit tenders for the leases of the first batch of six lots in the EcoPark Phase 2, Tuen Mun.

Flexible lease terms and conditions are in place for these six Phase 2 lots, an EPD spokesman said today (March 4).  These include open waste types to be freely proposed by tenderers, a 20-year tenancy period to allow tenants' long term capital investment under a stable and secure environment, and different lot sizes to suit tenderers' operational requirements.

"The Government will continue to strengthen management service and offer full support to tenants in the development and operation of their recycling plants," he said.

The invitation to tender was gazetted today. Successful tenderers will be required to carry out recycling of local waste in the EcoPark Phase 2.

Tender documents and further information are available at the EPD's Waste Reduction and EcoPark Group during normal office hours at 2/F, East Wing, 88 Victoria Road, Kennedy Town, Hong Kong.

Submissions should be addressed to the Chairman, Central Tender Board, and placed in the Government Secretariat Tender Box located in the lift lobby on the lower ground floor of the Central Government Offices (East Wing) at 20 Lower Albert Road (at its junction with Garden Road), Hong Kong, before noon on May 13, 2011.

Further details are available at the designated website: www.ecopark.com.hk.  Enquiries can be made by phone 2819 5502 or fax 2872 0389.

The development of the EcoPark aims to provide long-term land at affordable cost for the recycling and environmental industry and to encourage investment in more advanced technologies and value-added processes in Hong Kong.  The six lots in Phase 1 have been allocated for the recycling of waste wood, waste cooking oil, waste computer equipment, waste plastics, waste metals and waste batteries.  Two recycling centres run by non-profit organisations for handling waste plastics and waste electrical appliances are also in operation in Phase 2.
