The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (February 18) successfully pursued a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for $3,293.23 for an employee who was owed MPF contributions by his employer.

At the Tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Kandy Power International Holdings Limited, trading as Best Progress Tutorial Centre, did not appear. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $3,293.23, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable. The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employee's MPF account as soon as it is received by the MPFA.

Meanwhile, the Adjudicator ordered another defendant, 3333 Limited trading as Top Choice Seafood and Hotpot Restaurant, to pay the MPFA a financial penalty of $15,000, which was imposed by the MPFA for failure to make MPF contributions for its employees.

The Adjudicator further ordered the two defendants to pay $148 and $100 respectively as the costs of the claims.
