The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, has appointed Mr Carlson Tong as a Non-Executive Director of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) under the authority delegated by the Chief Executive, for a term of two years from April 1, 2011 to March 31, 2013.
Mr Tsang has also re-appointed Mrs Alexa Lam as Executive Director (Policy, China and Investment Products) cum Deputy Chief Executive Officer of SFC, for a term of three years from March 1, 2011 to February 28, 2014.
Mr Tong is an accountant and has rich experience in the financial services field. He is currently a member of the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee, the Financial Reporting Review Panel and the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Appeal Board. Between 2006 and 2008, Mr Tong was Chairman of the Main Board Listing Committee of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong.
Mrs Lam joined the SFC in 1998 and has been an Executive Director since 2001. In 2008, she was appointed as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of SFC in addition to being Executive Director heading the Policy, China and Investment Products Division.
Announcing the appointments today (February 15), Mr Tsang said: "Mr Tong has rich experience and expertise in the accountancy and the financial services fields. We believe that he will provide invaluable contribution to the work of the SFC. Mrs Lam contributed to developing the regulatory platform in Hong Kong during her past tenure and we look forward to her continued service with the SFC."
