Japanese city Arao donates historical picture to Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum (with photo)
********************************************************

The Mayor of Arao city, Mr Junji Maehata, today (February 13) donated a historical photograph to the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum on behalf of Arao. The photograph captures the visit of Dr Sun Yat-sen to his friend, Torazo Miyazaki's home in Arao in 1913. Mr Maehata is currently touring Hong Kong with the Governor of Kumamoto Prefecture, Mr Ikuo Kabashima, and the great grandson of Torazo Miyazaki, Mr Koseki Miyazaki.

Mr Miyazaki held Dr Sun in high esteem after the two became acquainted in August 1897. In May 1898, Mr Miyazaki began translating "Kidnapped in London" into Japanese, giving it the title "The Story of Imprisonment of Sun Yat-sen, the Revolutionary Leader of Qing China". Later, he wrote the book "My Thirty-three Years' Dream (Sanju-sannen no yume)", furnishing Japanese readers with his family background and Dr Sun's life history.

Marking the centenary of the 1911 Revolution, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will organise a series of activities and programmes, such as exhibitions, seminars, opera and a puppet show to commemorate this important event in China's modern history. In addition to the exhibition entitled "Revolution Once More: Dr Sun Yat-sen from Xing Zhong Hui to the Governments in Guangzhou" currently being shown at the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum, there will be two further major exhibitions. These are the "Dr Sun Yat-sen and Guangzhou in the Post-1911 Revolution Period" exhibition, to be held at the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum in September, and the "Centenary of China's 1911 Revolution" exhibition, to be held at the Hong Kong Museum of History from March 2 to May 16. Featuring about 400 invaluable artefacts, historical pictures, videos and maps, the latter exhibition will illustrate the immense contributions that Hong Kong made to the revolution.
