Lunar New Year fireworks display to be held at 8pm on February 4 (with photos)
******************************************************

Sponsored by the HongKong Hainan Commercial Association and co-ordinated by the Home Affairs Bureau, the Lunar New Year fireworks display will light up the sky over Victoria Harbour at 8pm this Friday (February 4).

A total of 31,888 firework shells will be discharged in the display from four barges during a 23-minute extravaganza consisting of eight scenes.

Highlights of the display include the characters for "2011", a rabbit's face and a "smiley" image appearing in scene two - "Golden Rabbit Welcoming Spring". The third scene "Coconut Breeze with Sea Rhythm", including a display of colourful coconut trees, represents the hospitality of the Hainan people. The fifth scene, "Love in Hong Kong" will include sparkling colours displaying the message "I love Hong Kong". Following a phase of rapid and rhythmic fireworks, the display reaches a climax in the last scene, "Auspiciousness All Around", wishing Hong Kong all the best in the coming year.

The display can be seen from many vantage points on both sides of the harbour, including Tsim Sha Tsui, Mid-levels, Central District, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay and Hung Hom Bypass.

To enjoy the display to the full, onlookers are invited to tune to Radio Television Hong Kong Radio Four (FM 97.6 - 98.9) for synchronised music.

In conjunction with the fireworks display, the HongKong Hainan Commercial Association has also organised a photo contest on the Lunar New Year fireworks display to encourage more people to capture the moments of festive joy.

Meanwhile, people are urged to help keep public areas clean and to show respect for public property.  They are also urged to show consideration in order to make the event a safe one.
