Crowd management and traffic measures for Che Kung Festival

     Police will implement special crowd management and traffic arrangements to facilitate worshippers visiting Che Kung Temple in Sha Tin during the Che Kung Festival period.

     "Police will continue to take strict enforcement actions against illegal parking. During the Lunar New Year period, any illegally parked vehicles will be towed away without prior notice," a Police spokesman said.

     "During the Lunar New Year festive period, a one-way pedestrian flow system will be implemented at Che Kung Temple to ensure the safety of the public.  Members of the public are advised to follow the designated pedestrian route to and from the Temple and to take heed of the instructions given by Police officers on site. Worshippers are advised to observe order and be patient while waiting in a queue," the spokesman further said.

     As huge crowds of worshippers are expected, the following traffic arrangements will be implemented:

     The following traffic arrangements will be in effect between 8pm on February 4 and 6pm on February 5:

(1) The slow lane of the section of westbound Che Kung Miu Road between Sha Tin Tau Road and Chui Tin Street will be closed (except for emergency vehicles);

(2) The slow lane of the section of southbound Chui Tin Street between Che Kung Miu Road and the entrance of Sun Chui Estate will be closed (except for emergency vehicles);

(3) The cycle track along the western riverside of Shing Mun River Channel between Tsuen Nam Road and Che Kung Miu Road, the cycle track along both sides of Che Kung Miu Road between Chui Tin Street and Sha Tin Tau Road, the cycle track inside the subway system at the junction between Che Kung Miu Road and Chui Tin Street, and the cycle track inside the subway system at the junction between Che Kung Miu Road and Sha Tin Tau Road will be closed. Cyclists may use the cycle track along the northern riverside of Shing Mun River Channel between Lion Rock Tunnel Road and Shing Wan Road to and from Sha Tin;

(4) The bus and green minibus stops at Che Kung Miu Road westbound outside Lee Uk Village near Che Kung Temple will be suspended;

(5) A temporary taxi drop-off point will be provided at Sha Tin Tau Road near Che Kung Temple for setting down passengers only. Taxis may pick up passengers at the taxi stands at Tsuen Nam Road near MTR Tai Wai Station or in the Tai Wai Station Public Transport Interchange; and

(6) All taxis and non-franchised buses will be prohibited from entering Chui Tin Street. Drivers of taxis and non-franchised buses should pick up and drop off passengers at locations according to the instructions from Police officers on site.

     The Chui Tin Street public carpark adjacent to Che Kung Temple will be closed to all vehicles, except for emergency and authorised vehicles, between 7am on February 2 and 8pm on February 5. The carpark will also be closed from 7am to 6pm on February 6, 12, 13, 17, 19, 20, 26 and 27.

     Appropriate traffic aids will be provided and Police officers will be stationed on site to guide the pedestrians and motorists. The public transport operators will display notices at the stops and inside vehicle compartments to advise passengers of the above temporary arrangements. Actual implementation of the road closure, traffic control and traffic diversions will be made by Police officer at the time depending on the traffic and crowd situation.

     Police will continue to take strict enforcement actions against illegal parking. During the Lunar New Year period, any illegally parked vehicles will be towed away without prior notice.

    Public members are advised to make use of public transport as far as possible and should follow the instructions of police officers at the scene.
