Japan's Ryoichi Kurokawa and Hong Kong's Nerve + npool will present their respective audiovisual performances in "Flow" in March. The concert combines audio and visual effects and seeks to merge virtual and real in the context of memory.
As an audiovisual artist, Kurokawa's work takes on multiple forms: projections, recordings, installation and live performance. Three dimensional pixel sculptures are the result of his audiovisual synthesis. Kurokawa destructs and reconstructs architectonic and organic abstractions with precision, coercing a complete surrendering of the senses. A minimal, yet chaotic conflux of visual and auditory perception merges into an experience of memory and ambiguity where virtual and actual images are no longer distinguishable. Kurokawa uses what he calls his "audiovisual organ" to compose spatial-time sculptures out of digitally generated material, formed from analogue field recordings. Abstract sound and imagery are precisely synchronised and juxtaposed, asserting a form of glitch minimalism re-assembled into complex and highly rhythmic audio-visual landscapes.
Nerve is an alias Steve Hui uses for presenting music, while npool is a tag Jamsen Law has used for more than a decade. In their latest collaboration, Nerve's digitally synthesised sound reflects the four seasons, modulating the representational sound into music as the intervals in between. Meanwhile, npool turns the theatre into a site for visualising networks of co-beings, and rejoices with the sound as one. While prompting associations and reconnecting the memories of seasons, they also lead the audience into another perspective on reality. This is a journey through layers of invisibility.
The audiovisual performance "Flow", presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, will be staged at 8pm, on March 17 and 18 (Thursday and Friday) at the Multi-media Theatre, HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity. Tickets priced at $180 (free seating) are now available at all URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients. (Limited tickets for students and CSSA recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis.)
