Following is a transcript of remarks by the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, at a media session after attending the Budget Regional Consultation Forum in New Territories West at Tsuen Wan Town Hall this evening (January 11):
Reporter: Mr Tsang, how would the government help people face the inflation problem in this upcoming budget?
Financial Secretary: Inflation is not solely an issue that is faced by Hong Kong. It is a problem that is faced by the entire region as well as other parts of the world. So we are looking into that and I think there are different measures that we can do to help alleviate the pain that is caused by inflation. We need to look into that and we need to listen more to what the people have to say and identify appropriate measures to deal with that.
