Office of Former Chief Executives opens to the public this Sunday
***********************************************************

     Members of the public will have an opportunity to visit the Office of Former Chief Executives (FCEO) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, where former Chief Executives hold official functions and receive dignitaries, this coming Sunday (January 16).

     A Government spokesman said that the Grade I historic building at 28 Kennedy Road, Central, housing the FCEO, will be open from 10am to 5pm on Sunday.

     Built around 1905, the building has formerly been the campus of Queen's College, Clementi Secondary School and Kennedy Road Junior School, the meeting venue of the Sino-British Joint Liaison Group, and leased by the Hong Kong Design Centre.  The building has been used as the FCEO since April 2007, where Mr Tung Chee Hwa, the former Chief Executive, meets local, Mainland and overseas dignitaries and officials, as well as leaders from the business and academic sectors.

     Visitors should make full use of public transport.  Due to space and loading limitations, visitors will have to visit the FCEO in separate groups (the building can accommodate a maximum of 80 persons while its first floor can only hold 20 persons at any one time).  Depending on the length of the queue, the Police may announce a cut-off time for lining up outside the FCEO to ensure that those in the queue can be admitted in time.

     Owing to the design of the premises, the presence of a number of staircases and absence of an elevator, it is regretted that wheel-chair users cannot be served on the open day.  A video introducing the history and architectural features of the building is available on the website of the Administration Wing of the Chief Secretary for Administration's Office (www.admwing.gov.hk) for viewing by the public.

     Visitors can reach the site by the following means:

* Bus No. 3B, 23 or 103 (to Pokfield Road), 12 (to Robinson Road), 23 or 23B (to Park Road) or 40 (to Wah Fu Estate), get off at Kennedy Height on Kennedy Road, follow the temporary directional signs and walk for about three minutes;

* Bus No. 12A at Admiralty (Tamar Street) Bus Terminus, get off at the bus stop opposite St Joseph's College;
