SED thanks Education Commission for contribution towards PEVS review
*********************************************************

The Secretary for Education, Mr Michael Suen, today (December 15) thanked the Education Commission and its Working Group for submitting the Report on Review of the Pre-primary Education Voucher Scheme (PEVS) to the Government.

"The Secretary is grateful to the Education Commission Chairman, Dr Moses Cheng, and Professor Edmond Ko, Chairman of the Working Group on Review of PEVS, for their leadership and thanks other members of the group for their time and dedication in conducting the comprehensive review on PEVS," a spokesman for the Education Bureau said.

"The Education Bureau will study the Report in detail and consider the way forward for further improvement to the implementation of the PEVS that will attend to the needs and characteristics of the local context.

"The PEVS, since its introduction in the 2007/08 school year, has extended financial support to more families and enhanced the professional capacity of teachers. It is pleasing to note that the system capacity has undergone continual improvement to meet the demand for quality education," he added.

Implementation arrangements of the PEVS beyond the 2011/12 school year will be formulated before the end of 2011.

The report can be viewed at the Education Bureau's website (www.edb.gov.hk) and the Education Commission's website (www.e-c.edu.hk).
