*******************************************************

The Chairman of the 2010 Fight Crime Conference, Dr John Tse, today (December 4) appealed to the public to continue actively participating in the fight against crime so that Hong Kong remains an attractive place to live and work.

The conference is a biennial event organised by the Fight Crime Committee (FCC), and provides a forum for members of the FCC and the District FCCs to exchange views. The theme of this year's conference is "Fight Crime, Beat Drugs - Hong Kong Cares".

The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, delivered an opening address at the conference and the Chief Secretary for Administration and Chairman of the FCC, Mr Henry Tang, gave a keynote speech.

Prior to the opening of this year's conference, five group discussions were organised for members of the 18 District FCCs to deliberate on various law and order issues, including domestic violence, commercial crime, on-line crime, youth crime and youth drug abuse, "quick cash" crimes, burglary and home security. The five groups presented the outcome of their discussions at the conference. In addition, nearly 400 FCC and DFCC members attending the conference exchanged views with representatives from relevant policy bureaux and departments on the law and order situation and ways to fight crime.

Other officials attending the conference were the Secretary for Justice, Mr Wong Yan Lung, SC; Secretary for Security, Mr Ambrose S K Lee; Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing; Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung; Commissioner of Police, Mr Tang King-shing; Commissioner of Correctional Services, Mr Sin Yat-kin; and Director of Home Affairs, Mrs Pamela Tan.
