Revised Code of Practice for Owners of Boilers and Pressure Vessels gazetted
************************************************************

The Labour Department (LD) today (November 26) issued a revised version of the Code of Practice for Owners of Boilers and Pressure Vessels (CoP).

A spokesman for the LD said that a notice has been published in the gazette on the issue of the CoP, issued under the Boilers and Pressure Vessels Ordinance (the Ordinance), for the purpose of ensuring acceptable standards in the design, manufacture, installation, maintenance, examination, testing and operation of boilers and pressure vessels.

The CoP has been revised following consultation with major stakeholders of the industry.  Major amendments include renaming the "Code of Practice for Pressure Equipment Owners" to the "Code of Practice for Owners of Boilers and Pressure Vessels" to align with the terms used in the Ordinance; reminders to applicants for exemption from the provisions of the Ordinance, as well as a summary of penalties for contraventions of the provisions of the Ordinance.

In addition, the CoP, also reminds owners to seek advice from an Appointed Examiner before repair work on the pressure parts of a boiler or the pressure vessel is carried out.  If it is an extensive repair, the boiler or pressure vessel is required to be re-examined after such repair and a new Certificate of Fitness shall be issued in accordance with the provisions of the Ordinance.

The revised CoP can be obtained free of charge from the Labour Department's Boilers and Pressure Vessels Division offices, or downloaded from Labour Department's website at www.labour.gov.hk. Enquiries about the CoP can be made on 2975 6428.
