The Permanent Secretary for Education, Mr Raymond H C Wong, who is leading a higher education delegation to India, continued his second-day visit to New Dehli today (November 23) to showcase Hong Kong as a regional education hub and foster education and research collaboration between India and Hong Kong.

In the morning, Mr Wong and delegates visited the University of Delhi, a premier university in India with a rich academic tradition and high standards in teaching and research.

During his meeting with the Vice Chancellor of the university Mr Dinesh Singh, Mr Wong explained Hong Kong's vision to develop as a regional education hub with an internationalised and diversified higher education sector. He also briefed him on the key features of the New Academic Structure and on international recognition for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education. Both sides are looking forward to further collaboration opportunities in student exchange, research and joint education programmes.

In the afternoon, Mr Wong attended a media roundtable where he made a brief presentation on Hong Kong's education system and opportunities for Indian students.

Welcoming more Indian students to study in Hong Kong, Mr Wong said that with its unique location blending Chinese and Western cultures, a lively, safe cosmopolitan environment and world class higher education institutions and programmes, Hong Kong could provide tremendous opportunities for students who pursue their studies in the territory.

In the evening, Mr Wong will speak at the grand opening of the University of Hong Kong's India Office, the first such overseas office established by a Hong Kong university.

Mr Wong will also deliver opening remarks at a reception on "Higher Education of Hong Kong". Representatives from eight Hong Kong higher education institutions will also attend the reception to strengthen ties and explore future collaboration with their counterparts in India.

Mr Wong will conclude his tour in New Delhi by visiting the Shri Ram School, a co-educational private school providing diverse education programmes, tomorrow (November 24).
