Following is the transcript of remarks (English portion) made by the Secretary for Education, Mr Michael Suen, at a media session on enhanced provisions for Voluntary Optimisation of Class Structure Scheme today (November 18):

Reporter: On the issue of the Audit Report, will the Education Bureau issue an advisory or warning letter to the school management to withdraw subsidies?

Secretary for Education: The Education Bureau takes a serious view of the allegations contained in the Audit Report. Because of the procedural restraint, we are not yet in a position to divulge the details of the response to various allegations. The opportunity will arise if and when the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Legislative Council invites us to appear before them. That will be the occasion for us to give a formal and detailed response to all the questions.

Reporter: Will the Education Bureau terminate the subsidies?

Secretary for Education: I think, depending on the severity of the irregularity, one of the dire consequences is to terminate (the subsidies).
