Advisory Committee on Arts Development established

     The Government today (October 28) announced the setting up of the Advisory Committee on Arts Development (ACAD) to advise the Secretary for Home Affairs on the following matters relating to local arts development:

(a)  issues in relation to the use of the arts portion of the Arts and Sport Development Fund (ASDF), including the formulation of themes and priorities for inviting arts and cultural proposals, as well as the assessment of applications received;

(b)  issues in relation to the operation of matching grants under the arts portion of the ASDF, including the assessment of applications received for matching grants;

(c)  funding policies and strategies, including the review of the funding mechanism for the major performing arts groups;

(d)  the promotion of cultural exchange and assessment of applications received under the Arts Development Fund to enhance the profile of the arts and culture of Hong Kong in the Mainland and overseas;

(e)  strengthening of the cultural software, including arts programme development, audience building, arts education and manpower training, and other issues pertaining to the promotion of arts and culture in Hong Kong.

     "The ACAD will advise on matters in relation to local arts development, covering both performing arts and visual arts. It will take on the key functions of the Committee on Performing Arts and the Funding Committee for the Performing Arts, following their conclusion at the end of October, and operate with an expanded ambit," a government spokesman said.

     All members are appointed for a term of two years from November 1, 2010 to October 31, 2012. The membership list is as follows:
