Hong Kong Week continues fun-filled programmes by first-rate creative talent (with photos/video)

     Hong Kong Week today (October 21) continued to delight Expo 2010 Shanghai China (Shanghai Expo) audiences with a range of performances by first-rate creative Hong Kong talent.

     An eclectic group of talented Hong Kong singer-songwriters presented three "Generation Singer-Songwriters Concerts" at Celebration Square on day 4 of the five-day Hong Kong Week.

     The performers were at17, ketchup, Fama, Swing, Mr Louis Cheung, Mr Pong Nan, Mr Chet Lam, Mr Peco Chui, Mr Jonathan Wong, Ms Vicky Fung, Ms Takki Wong, Ms Yoyo Sham and special guest Mr Wong Ka-keung.

     They enthralled Expo visitors with the diversity of Hong Kong contemporary pop music, from urban folk, rap and hip hop to fresh Mandarin ballads.

     Divided into three teams, the singer-songwriters displayed the charisma and creativity of their musical manifesto in solo and crossover performances.

     Over at Baosteel Stage (Large), Hong Kong's premier jazz guitarist Mr Eugene Pao and renowned pianist and composer Mr Ted Lo delighted the audience with an amazing mix of contemporary jazz music.

     Mr Eugene Pao and Mr Ted Lo are both first-rate jazz players who have collaborated on stage with a number of world-class musicians and international stars.

     For the two concerts "Contemporary Jazz featuring Ted Lo and Eugene Pao" today, they demonstrated to the audience an amazing variety of jazz styles, ranging from Brazilian, rock and funky to Latin.

     Also joining them was jazz talent from other places, including bassist Mr Tsang Tak-hong from Hong Kong, Australian drummer Mr Andrew Gander, Brazilian saxophonist Mr Paulo Silveira and percussionist Mr Leonardo Susi.

     Tying in with October's there for Hong Kong's participation in Expo, "Creative City", 10 Hong Kong film directors taking part in the Hong Kong Film Development Council's Hong Kong Films Retrospective 2010 had lively exchanges with more than 90 students from the Shanghai Theatre Academy in Shanghai today to enhance understanding of the film cultures of both cities.

     At the Urban Best Practices Area, the Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology), Miss Elizabeth Tse, delivered a speech at Hong Kong's UBPA Exhibition flagship event "Hong Kong Smart City + Forum".

     The seminar has drawn the participation of experts and professionals in Radio Frequency Identification technology and Public Key Infrastructure technology to discuss how such technologies can bring about "Smart Card‧Smart City‧Smart Life".

     Tomorrow (October 22) will be the last day of Hong Kong Week.

     The programme will end on a high note with a closing ceremony at the Shanghai Oriental Art Centre, to be officiated by the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam.

     It will be followed by the Hong Kong Sinfonietta's presentation of Igor Stravinsky's "A Soldier's Story".

     The closing ceremony performance will be broadcast live on RTHK Radio 4 and Shanghai Radio FM947.
