************************************************************

Edouard Malingue Gallery, dedicated to Impressionist and Modern Art, today (September 27) announced its opening in Hong Kong. To mark its debut, the gallery will stage an exhibition of seminal and museum-quality masterpieces by Picasso, from September 28 to December 4.

The gallery represents a number of celebrated artists, including Monet, Renoir, Pissarro, Sisley, Picasso, Kandinsky, Klee, Mondrian, Lˆmger, Mirˆu, Magritte, Dali and Giacometti, as well as the Paris-based Chinese masters Zao Wou-ki and Chu Teh-chun.  Founder and Director of Edouard Malingue Gallery, Mr Edouard Malingue, is a French art dealer experienced in acquiring a wide array of quality art objects on behalf of private art collectors. He was based in London working as a private dealer before coming to Hong Kong a year ago.

Commenting on the reasons why he chose Hong Kong to set up his first shop in Asia, Mr Malingue said, "Hong Kong is undoubtedly the pivotal art hub in Asia. The city stands at the forefront of the region, providing us strategic and easy business outreach to other markets in Asia. Most importantly, its status as a gateway to Mainland China offers us the access to the huge potential and fast-growing appetite in Impressionist and Modern Art in the Mainland.

"The awareness, demand and interest for Western art is fast growing. Collectors in Hong Kong are increasingly enthusiastic and pro-active in branching out of their collecting domains, in which Impressionist and Modern Art is one of the prime collecting areas. Local, regional and international collectors congregate in the city to look for the best art objects, providing us the key to broaden our client base. The strength and outlook of the Hong Kong art market is impressive for our gallery business. We see many business opportunities here in the long run," Mr Malingue added.

As to the role of its Hong Kong office, Mr Malingue said, "Since we are seeking to expand our client and business network in future, a solid foundation in Hong Kong is vital as it is the base where we develop our brand equity, business presence and build connections.  Hong Kong definitely will become our future headquarters for our business development throughout the region.  Besides selling Impressionist and Modern art, we will provide consultancy to art collectors and connoisseurs, offer 'artworks on loan' to regional museums in Asia, curate exhibitions, enhance public awareness and interest in art by planning public and educational events in future."

Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong, Mr Andrew Davis, welcomed the establishment of Edouard Malingue Gallery in Hong Kong. He said, "Hong Kong is a world city and one of the easiest places to do business. Our city's unique positioning of East meets West fits Edouard Malingue Gallery's vision in introducing more masterpieces by different artists and a wider selection of art from both the Western and Chinese markets."

Mr Davis added, "Hong Kong offers art galleries and dealers an unbeatable tax proposition where there are no duties or taxes on the import, export, purchase or sale of art pieces and a simple corporate profits tax of 16.5 percent. Hong Kong's transportation infrastructure, logistics and extensive experience in handling art pieces also contribute to making Hong Kong an ideal arts hub in the region. I take this opportunity to wish Edouard Malingue Gallery every success in its business and look forward to seeing its further expansion in the near future."
