The following is issued on behalf of the Environmental Campaign Committee:

To promote low-carbon living, the Environmental Campaign Committee (ECC) has launched the "Low Carbon Living @ Hong Kong" book series, which encourages different sectors of the community to mitigate the impact of climate change in daily life.

The low-carbon living series, which offers green tips to reduce carbon emissions, consists of four books in Chinese targeting four groups: young people, homemakers, the working class and the business sector.

Officiating at a ceremony to launch the book series at Discovery Park, Tsuen Wan, today (September 18), the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Edward Yau, said, "A green Hong Kong needs the joint efforts of members of the public.  Adopting a low-carbon lifestyle is an easy task and we can start practising it in our daily life.

"I am happy to see the publication of the series by the ECC.  The books will bring low-carbon living to people from different walks of life. If each of us takes a small step, our concerted efforts to reduce carbon emissions can make Hong Kong a better place to live in," he said.

Also introducing the series, the ECC Chairman, Mr Joseph Lee, another officiating guest, said "The books contain many useful tips.  We hope that the books will provide easy and practical ways for people to practise low-carbon living no matter you are a teenager, a housewife or a businessman."

The launching event was organised by the ECC and supported by the Climate Group (Hong Kong) and RoadShow Media. Guests and artistes shared practical tips on low-carbon living with residents and the audience. The event received an enthusiastic response from the participants.

Two books in the series, one targeting young people and the other homemakers, were rolled out at the event today.  Singer Chet Lam shares his low-carbon lifestyle with young readers in the first book. The second book features a number of real-life cases about green living and serves as a good reference for low-carbon living at home.

The themes of the remaining two books are a low-carbon economy and a green city life with the business sector and the working class as the target readers respectively. They will be in print by November this year.
