The Under Secretary for Education, Mr Kenneth Chen, today (September 17) officiated at a ceremony to launch the "National Day Delegation from the Educational Sector of Hong Kong 2010".

Mr Chen, who is the delegation's advisor, said it was the fifth time the "National Day Delegation from the Educational Sector of Hong Kong" had been organised since 2006. The Education Bureau, he said, was highly honoured this year to be again invited by the Ministry of Education to co-organise this exchange activity for 150 education workers.

He said, "The delegation is a national education training cum exchange programme for the education sector. I believe that the itineraries arranged by the Education Bureau and the Ministry of Education will, as always, deepen your understanding of the Mainland situation and its latest developments in education.

"This will help you to plan for the promotion of national education in schools and strengthen the national identity of students."

Talking about his own experience in joining the National Day delegation two years ago, Mr Chen said he was impressed that the country had attached much importance to a visit by representatives of the Hong Kong education sector.

He said, "I had a memorable experience two years ago and this year, I am honoured to have the chance to re-visit the capital as the country celebrates its 61st anniversary. Apart from celebrating National Day, I can also further understand the latest national developments in education, economics and technology. I hope that, like me, you can make good use of this professional development opportunity."

The 150-member delegation comprises teachers and principals of kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools who are enthusiastic in promoting education reform and national education, as well as representatives from tertiary institutions and education organisations. During their stay in Beijing between September 28 and October 1, they will participate in various exchange activities while celebrating the 61st National Day.

Members will call on the Ministry of Education and receive a briefing on the core spirit of the nation's medium- and long-term education reform and development plans. They will also visit local primary and secondary schools, kindergartens and Beijing Space City.
