First INTERPOL Information Security Conference held in Hong Kong

     The 1st INTERPOL Information Security Conference entitled "Global Cooperation Today for InfoSec Risks Tomorrow" will be held between September 15 and 17, 2010 at Hong Kong Police Headquarters.

     Co-hosted by Hong Kong Police and INTERPOL, the conference will attract up to 250 law enforcement representatives, scholars and industry leaders of the 188 INTERPOL member countries to address information security issues in an international context with emphasis on relevant preventive measures and incident responses.  

     A Police spokesman said: "As a dedicated member of INTERPOL under the National Central Bureau, China, the Force has over the years been committed to fostering strong international co-operation by actively participating in the work of INTERPOL in a number of areas.

     "Through organising the first-ever INTERPOL Information Security Conference, we demonstrate our commitment to enhance international co-operation in the fight against transnational crime and the policing of information security."

     INTERPOL Secretary General, Mr Ronald K. Noble, and the Commissioner of Police, Mr Tang King-shing, will officiate at the opening ceremony tomorrow (September 15). The conference will then conclude on September 17 with the closing speeches by INTERPOL Director of Information Systems and Technology Directorate, Mr Noboru Nakatani, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Mr Tsang Wai-hung.

     During the conference, there will be keynote addresses, panel discussions and case studies on issues related to response strategies, computer forensics, information infrastructure protection, and standards and laws.

     Speakers will include Deputy Director General, Network Security Bureau, Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China, Mr Qiu Baoli; Assistant Director, Cyber Division, US Federal Bureau of Investigation, Mr Gordon Snow; Director of Cyber Security, US National Security Council, Mr Christopher Painter; Legislative Councillor of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Dr Samson Tam; and Senior Assistant Commissioner of Hong Kong Police, Mr Ma Wai-luk.

     "Apart from providing a platform for sharing views and insights, we will also seize this opportunity to show our professionalism and dedication, and to promote Hong Kong as Asia's world city," the spokesman added.
