Recruitment of Administrative Officers, Executive Officers II and Management Services Officers II in 2010/11 starts today
***********************************************************

The Government starts a recruitment exercise today (September 4) to select around 25, 120 and six candidates for appointment on civil service terms as Administrative Officer (AO), Executive Officer II (EOII) and Management Services Officer II (MSOII) respectively in 2010/11.

The application period runs from September 4 to 27. Recruitment advertisements are placed in the South China Morning Post, Ming Pao and Sing Tao Daily today and will run again on September 11 and 18. The advertisement can also be found on the Civil Service Bureau's (CSB) homepage at www.csb.gov.hk from today.

For the recruitment of AOs, an advertisement is also placed in the overseas editions of Ming Pao and Sing Tao Daily today and again on September 18.

The advertisements are also accessible at the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government portal, GovHK, on the Internet at www.gov.hk .

The recruitment is open to all permanent residents of the HKSAR (for the AO post, applicants should have at least seven years of residence in Hong Kong) who possess the requisite academic qualifications or those who are final year undergraduates going to obtain such qualifications within the 2010/11 academic year. Applicants may refer to the advertisements for details of the qualification requirements.

All applicants would need to obtain Level 2 in the two language papers (i.e. Use of Chinese and Use of English), or equivalent results, and a Pass in the Aptitude Test in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) before they qualify for any of the above posts.  Persons who do not possess the requisite CRE results, or equivalent, but have applied for the coming Common Recruitment Examination and Basic Law Test to be held on October 2 and 9 in Hong Kong or on December 4 in Beijing and six overseas cities (London, San Francisco, New York, Toronto, Vancouver and Sydney) may also apply. Their applications will be processed subject to their obtaining the requisite results in the CRE.  Applicants are also advised to refer to the advertisements for details regarding the requisite CRE results.

Qualified applicants possessing the requisite CRE results, or equivalent, will be invited to attend the Joint Administrative Officer / Executive Officer / Management Services Officer Recruitment Examination (JRE) on December 4. Candidates residing or studying outside Hong Kong may take the JRE on the same date in Beijing or any one of the six overseas cities mentioned above.  Candidates are required to pass the JRE.

For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of the BL in the community, assessment of BL knowledge will be included in the recruitment for all civil service jobs. Results of the BL test for degree / professional grades will be one of the considerations to assess the suitability of a candidate but will not affect his/her eligibility for applying for civil service jobs. As a general principle, the main consideration for suitability for appointment remains a candidate's qualification, experience and calibre.

Application forms (CSB 606 and CSB 606A)(Rev. 9/2010) are available at the Public Enquiry Service Centres of District Offices, Home Affairs Department, and any Job Centre of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department, or they can be downloaded from the CSB's homepage at www.csb.gov.hk .

Applicants can make on-line applications directly through the Bureau's website. Each applicant should only submit one application, either by hand, by post or on-line. Duplicate applications will result in processing delays and applicants may not get sufficient notice to be invited to attend the examination(s).
