The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 18) pursued four claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $69,000 on behalf of nine employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the Tribunal's hearing today, a defendant, Everise Water Technology Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $37,187.65, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other three defendants, namely Tsang Wan Cheong trading as Sun Lok Restaurant, Well Profit Development Limited and Top Union Engineering Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA thw sums of $20,320, $8,400 and $3,890.46 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Adjudicator further ordered the defendants to pay $195, $159, $151 and $145 respectively as the costs of the claims.
