The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 13) obtained an order for payment of outstanding MPF contributions of about $58,000 against an employer in the District Court. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $44,000 on behalf of 26 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employer.
The District Court today granted a judgment against Wintech Hong Kong Limited. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA the sum of $58,125, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to nine employees of the defendant.
At the Small Claim Tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Joyful Management and Security Co. Limited, did not appear. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $44,809.23, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The Adjudicator also ordered Joyful Management and Security Co. Limited to pay the MPFA the sum of $5,000, being a financial penalty imposed by the MPFA for failure to make MPF contributions for employees.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Adjudicator ordered Joyful Management and Security Co. Limited to pay $216 as the costs of the claim.
