The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang, and the Secretary for Security, Mr Ambrose S K Lee, accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Tang King-shing, visited the Junior Police Call (JPC) fight crime summer camp at Wu Kwai Sha Youth Village today (August 11).

They toured the camp, watching JPC members participating in various activities, including a water rocket workshop, anti-drug painting and abseiling. Mr Tang said he hoped youngsters could develop a healthy lifestyle and play an active part in the fight against crime and drug abuse.

The trio also officiated at a ceremony to call on youngsters to help Police combat technology crime and spread anti-drug messages.

Mr Lee noted that there was a rise in technology crime. He reminded youngsters to comply with the law and stay vigilant when surfing the Internet to avoid falling into traps in the virtual world.

He also commended JPC for its persistent efforts to engage the community to combat crime and to instil positive values in the younger generation. Noting a significant drop in the number of young people arrested for drug-related offences in the first six months of 2010, he appealed to JPC members to keep conveying anti-drug messages to the community through their network.

The annual summer camp, organised by the Police with sponsorship and support from various organisations, aims to enhance JPC members' awareness of crimes and to promote healthy living. About 1 300 JPC members have taken part in this year's camp, which began on August 10 and runs until August 13.

Anti-drug and fight crime messages are being disseminated to the campers through a variety of activities including seminars on information security, crime prevention and drug abuse; as well as cooking contests and sports activities.
