The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 2) pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $119,000 on behalf of 15 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the Tribunal's hearing today, three defendants, namely Chow Wai Shing formerly trading as Genome Care Product Company, Sing Fai Express Limited and Chow Wai Shing and Chen Jinhui formerly trading as Genome Care Product Company, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $27,581.13, $16,569.03, and $9,607.5 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other three defendants, namely Har Oi Tai trading as Sun Kee, Climax Management Company Limited and China Enterprise Trainers Association (Hong Kong) Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $30,870, $30,404.12 and $4,846.3 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Adjudicator further ordered the defendants to pay $120, $60, $100, $169, $110 and $70 respectively as the costs of the claims.
