The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (July 16) pursued a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $12,000 on behalf of two employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employer.

At the Tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Multipipe Renovation (HK) Limited formerly known as Multipipe Renovation Limited, did not appear. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $12,391.25, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amount awarded at the Tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as it is received by the MPFA. The Tribunal ordered the defendant to pay $224 as the cost of the claim.

Multipipe Renovation Limited pleaded guilty previously at Kwun Tong Magistracy to a count of failing to enroll its employee in an MPF scheme as required by the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance and was fined $3,000.
