Order for new boundaries of Western District Public Cargo Working Area gazetted
**********************************************************

The Port Control (Public Cargo Working Areas) Order 2010, which declares the new boundaries of the Western District Public Cargo Working Area (PCWA), was gazetted today (July 9).

The Order, made by the Secretary for Transport and Housing, is to take effect from November 13, 2010.

A spokesman for the Transport and Housing Bureau said that to facilitate the construction of the West Island Line, a small portion of the Western District PCWA, measuring 7,500 square metres, is needed as a barging point for transporting the excavated materials to government reception facilities.

He added that the operation of the cargo operators at the Western District PCWA will not be affected by the change and the relevant site is expected to revert to being part of the PCWA in August 2014.

With the revised boundaries, the Western District PCWA will occupy a total area of 32,700 square metres with a usable seafrontage of 880 metres.

The Order will be tabled at the Legislative Council on July 14.
