The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (June 23) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $110,000 on behalf of 10 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the Tribunal's hearing today, a defendant, Chan Wing-kwong trading as Wing Ngai Company, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $17,647.19, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other six defendants, namely Winmaster Corporation Limited, Hallmark Fashions Limited, Joyful Management & Security Co. Limited, Triumph Fame Industrial Limited, Digi DV Company Limited and Goldwell Construction Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $48,165.44, $15,855, $13,935.67, $9,400, $3,931.4 and $3,150, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable respectively.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $160, $150, $76, $60, $76, $195 and $90 as the costs in respect of the claims.
Hallmark Fashions Limited had pleaded guilty previously at Kwun Tong Magistracy to three counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $10,000.
